Canada Accepts Refugees from Hong Kong
The Globe and Mail is reporting that “Canada has begun accepting Hong Kong pro-democracy activists as refugees, a sign that [the] country is opening its doors to those fleeing Beijing’s crackdown on civil rights in the former British colony.”
The article from The Globe and Mail cited a September 1, 2020, letter from Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board, which notified a married couple from Hong Kong that they had been deemed “Convention refugees” and that their claims for asylum had been accepted.
